We camped one night here - pretty exposed but not too windy on the night we were there.

Not sure of the full story but the landing is named after an aboriginal "Captain Billy".

Sandstone cliffs at one end of the beach.

Crab holes on the beach. Also enjoyed watching the lesser frigate birds as they sailed, glided, flew overhead but there was very little flapping as they progressed up the length of the beach.

Bramwell Station. The northern most cattle station in Australia. Still a great place for a stop over. Showers, flushing toilets and then dinner with a show.

They also have contracts for road maintenance so the trucks parked up on the way in.

As a working cattle station they had a yard full of weaners in.

Back out to the ever popular PDR and some more corrugations.

This is our second visit to Chilli Beach and I was actually a little disappointed this time. It is just more popular and the intrusion of people more evident. 4x4 vehicles up and down the beach detracted from the place for me.

Sunrise Chilli Beach.

The Scrub Turkeys on the Cape do not have the classic red and yellow wattles of their southern counterparts. It is more of a purple colour and I didn't see any of the enlarged flamboyant ones that you see down south.

Reflections in the freshwater lagoon/dam behind the roadhouse. While I shouldn't have been I was surprised at the number of people camping here for the night.

The Lagoon is home to a population of freshwater crocodiles.

A number of Egrets come in to roost around the lagoon.

I am not sure is this Juvenile Night Heron playing with death. (freshwater crocodiles)

Camped at Dogleg Crossing on the Palmer River on the edge of the Palmer River Mining Reserve.

This is the remains of the bakers oven in the Main Street. There is not much left of Maytown but it was still worth a poke around. The preservation society has cleared most of the paving stones of the gutters down both sides of the main street and installed labels marking the store and hotel locations.

Three boilers used to power the stamp and winding equipment at the Queen of the North Mine.

Reading the signage while a lot of alluvial gold was taken in the field none of the deep reef mines were a real success and most didn't recover the costs mining equipment.

The bowls were a new means of grinding the ore into and even finer consistency to allow the gold to be amalgamated with mercury.

The best preserved stamp battery in North Queensland.

While some of the mine shafts have collapsed a lot are still open. At the popular sites they do have signage and a barbed wire fence.
