Archer River on the Peninsular Development Road

We left the others to return to Coen and free camped at the Archer river.

Archer River

I am still surprised by the amount to caravans up here. They are travelling a lot slower than us on the gravel so I guess that is how they do it.

The section from Coen to Archer river was the first what I would call rough section of road we have come across so far.

When you look on a map it is not far from here to where we were camped in the National Park. There are croc signs in the NP but not here. There were a lot of people swimming here.

The beach at the Weipa caravan park.

While there was a large stretch of bitumen north of Archer River the gravel into Weipa was pretty rough with the road extending well past the guide posts - looking for the smoothest bits.

Everyone is back together here shopping and doing laundry.

Early morning stroll along the beach in front of the caravan park. When I say early morning it is about 7:00 am so hardly early.

Murphy's law. The tiny spec in the photo is a Jabiru fishing in the shallows. I only had my wide angle lens with me 🙁 .

The sunsetting behind one of the large ant hills in front of the Bramwell Roadhouse.

The Old Telegraph Track

I rode my bike along the track to Palm Creek so I feel I can take a photo with my bike leaning against the sign.

Dropping into the original Palm Creek crossing - sensibly  being lowered in by his mate.

Unfortunately the Hilux got stuck in the bottom and had to be winched back out.

The Old Telegraph Track - Palm Creek

This is the tack that most people were using. It had an easy entry but into a hole that had water over waste deep and then this exit.

Nissan Patrol on the popular exit.

Fortunately Roderick found a shallow entry even if it had a steeper entry and then a drive along the creek bed to an easier exit. We were across Palm Creek and off along the southern section of the tele track.
