Birdsville Track

We headed south down the Birdsville Track. Back in 2020 we came north.

This shot is pretty close to the southern end of the track from a lookout near Harry's Lake.

Kilanbar Bore

Kilanbar bore just off the track.

Mirra Mitta bore

Mirra Mitta Bore.

It was blowing a gale here but I managed to fly the drone over the fence and above the bore. I then dropped the drone as the breeze caught the motorhome door while I was juggling everything to get back inside. 🙁 Fortunately it still flies 🙂

Mungerannie

We camped the night at Mungerannie - we felt we had too, the last time we were on the Birdsville Track it had rained and the road was closed. We spent 4 or 5 nights here waiting for the road to reopen.

Didn't buy fuel here ~$3.10 per litre.

Mungerannie

McDonalds is still coming!

Old Mulka Ruins

These ruins are of an old shop. I suspect Mungerannie now fills the role of this stop over half way along the track.

Old Mulka Ruins

This is the grave of a 14 year old girl.

Cooper's Creek Ferry

We took an 8 km diversion down the old Birdsville track too see the Cooper's Creek Ferry site.

Cooper's Creek Ferry

Not sure how long we will have to wait for the next ferry.

Cooper's Creek Ferry

Ferry terminal on the far bank.

Harry's Lake

I was surprised to scramble up this lookout and see water on the horizon.

Harry's Lake - Lake Harry? We didn't stop at Harry's ruins this time.

Harry's Lake Lookout

The climb up wasn't much fun for Ann - she swallowed a fly.

Muloorina Campground

We didn't stop in Marree but headed straight for the campground at Muloorina Water Hole on Muloorina Station. The water hole is kept full by water from an artesian bore.
